Charlotte Pass is Australia’s oldest and highest ski resort, the highest village in Australia at 1765m and one of the best kept secrets in the NSW ski fields. Located only 8kms beyond Perisher Valley, Charlotte Pass is completely snowbound in the winter months and accessible only by oversnow transport. A secluded and scenic alpine experience in the Snowies with consistent snowfalls, no cars, no lift lines and uncrowded slopes.

Getting to Charlotte Pass

Getting to Charlotte Pass is easy! Kosciuszko Road is open in the summer months and in the winter, your journey begins at Perisher Resort. Purchase a Day Tripper Pass to ski or snowshoe Charlotte Pass, park at the Bullocks Flat Terminal (parking is free) and ride the Skitube to the Perisher Valley Terminal, where you’ll find the Charlotte Pass Guest Services offices. State of the art oversnow transport takes you on a scenic journey through the Main Range to Charlotte Pass Resort. There is limited baggage allowance but Charlotte Pass Snow Resort offers a wide range of equipment, clothing and accessory hire for your convenience.

Riding the Mountain

Charlotte Pass Resort features a small ski area with a triple chairlift, Pulpit T-bar, Basin Poma, Guthrie’s High Speed Poma and the Kosci Carpet for beginners. There are 19 runs in total with a good balance between beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain. Beginners can get their balance on Easy Starter then take the Kosciuszko Triple Chair to the Top of the World. Kosi Coaster is a great starting point for intermediates and advanced skiers can warm up on Sidewinder. For hardcore riders and adrenaline seekers, Kangaroo Ridge Cornice and Guthrie’s Chutes are both challenging and scenic.

Charlotte Pass has two terrain parks. The challenging Freestyle Terrain Park and Charlotte’s Play Park with mini-jumps for the kids. If the snowfall allows, enhanced natural terrain grooming makes for fun play on the mountain. The resort offers group and private lessons with a dedicated snow sports program for kids.

The winter activities at Charlotte Pass don’t end there! Book a snowcat sunrise experience to the secluded Mount Stillwell and ski the fresh powder before the lifts open, a Sunset Groomer tour to learn about the grooming process or a snowshoe tour with a picnic at the top of Australia.

Summer at Charlotte Pass

The road to Charlotte Pass is open in the summer giving easy access to bushwalking and mountain bike trails in the highest peaks of the Snowy Mountains. Whether you’re taking an easy stroll to a scenic lookout or hiking one of the two main trails to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, Charlotte Pass boasts summer splendour and scenic views at every turn. This area is part of a UNESCO-protected Biosphere Reserve. Watch out for wombats and leave only footprints behind!

Charlotte Pass Lookout:  Follow the Snow Gums boardwalk from the Charlotte Pass lookout to the Main Range lookout. This short 0.4km return walk leads to one of the most easily accessible scenic viewing platforms in the Snowy Mountains.

Mount Stilwell Walk: The Mount Stilwell Lookout Walk and Summit Walk begin at the Charlotte Pass Trailhead. Follow the trail for 850m past the old ski lift to the platform overlooking the Main Range, an easy walk for the whole family. The trail continues on to the summit of Mount Stilwell, a 4km return trip.

Mt Kosciuszko Summit Walk: The Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk is an 18.6km round trip from Charlotte Pass Trailhead to the summit at 2228m. The trail follows the old Summit Road, crosses the Snowy River and ascends gradually to Seaman’s Hut, Rawson’s Pass and onto the summit. If you’re looking for a shorter summit trail, set out from the top of the chairlift at Thredbo. The Thredbo walkway joins the trail at Rawson’s Pass. If you’re mountain biking, leave your bike at Rawson’s Pass for a short 1.4km hike to the summit.

Main Range Walk: The Main Range walk is a 20km loop trail that detours off to Blue Lake, one of the only four cirque lakes in Australia. The trail is paved to begin and crosses the Snowy River twice. After Blue Lake, the trail becomes more rustic but easy to follow and continues on to Mt Kosciuszko summit.
