Alpine Country Holidays is a local family business that has been welcoming guests to Jindabyne and the beautiful Snowy Mountains since 2010. Jindabyne has been our home for over 40 years and our mission is to provide more than a bed and a roof to our guests, with genuine alpine hospitality and a warm smile.
Jindabyne is a popular tourist destination that welcomes over 1.3 million visitors each year. Holiday makers come to explore acres of scenic outback, engage in exhilarating summer water sports and winter alpine activities and escape the city crowds in our scenic alpine town.
There’s an absolute abundance of things to do in Jindabyne and the surrounding Kosciuszko National Park all year long and planning your trip to Jindabyne is exciting. We’d like to share a few of our favourite things to do and Alpine Country Holidays looks forward to making your holiday in the Snowy Mountains a memorable one.
Our favourite hikes in Jindabyne
We’re not serious hikers or bushwalkers. It is, however, a popular thing to do in Jindabyne with local trails around town and miles of hiking trails in the Kosciuszko National Park. Start with a pleasant Sunday afternoon stroll or morning wake-up power walk along the foreshore of Lake Jindabyne. The fully sealed path starts at the town centre and finishes at the caravan park at the Thredbo road turnoff. For the more adventurous you can continue on the shared easy mountain bike and walkers trail that follows the lake to the Gaden Trout Hatchery. The Kosciuszko National Park has numerous shared mountain bike and hiking trails, primarily along the Thredbo River valley too and more are being built.
Our favourite scenic drives in Jindabyne
One of our favourite Sunday afternoon scenic drives is up to Charlottes Pass to wander the various lookouts with views to the main range and Mt Kosciuszko. Another favourite in the early winter is to drive to Dead Horse Gap above Thredbo to throw those first snowballs of the year, nothing like snow amongst the gumtrees! If you’re keen to explore further, the northern part of the park around Kiandra is worth a drive. Visit the site of a gold rush with some old graves remaining and the site of the very first ski club in the world. With a bit of luck, you may spot the wild brumbies that inhabit the area.
Our favourite picnic spot
Our favorite picnic spot would have to be The Gaden Trout Hatchery on the banks of the Thredbo River, particularly beautiful in autumn (summer brings the flies!). The scenery is spectacular, the autumn leaves on the numerous poplars have fallen and there’s many a photo of small children buried in large piles of colorful leaves.
Our favourite for a special occasion
Jindabyne is the ideal destination to celebrate a special occasion with friends and family. Our favourite spot in Jindabyne for a special occasion and visiting friends is the Wild Brumby Distillery. Celebrate in a beautiful setting with in-house schnapps, gin and vodka distillery to boot.
Our favourite coffee shop
Our team at Alpine Country Holidays are very serious about our morning coffee! Red Door Roastery is in the heart of Jindabyne and is our favourite coffee shop to grab a coffee to go, catch up with friends on the weekend and get updated on all the local news around town! The joys of small town living!
Our favourite dinner spot
There’s a diverse selection of restaurants in Jindabyne with everything from Bavarian comfort food and Mexican cantinas to American burgers and beer. While there are plenty of enticing restaurants in Jindabyne to try out, we can’t seem to go anywhere other than our all-time favourite, Takayama. Modern Japanese cuisine, popular with both locals and visitors.
Our favourite summer activity
Summer in Jindabyne is all about the lake activities! Sunrise paddles on the lake, swimming in the fresh water at clay pitts and endless rentals and water sports to get you active on Lake Jindabyne. There are plenty of trails for hiking and mountain biking in town and in Kosciuszko National Park and river rafting on the Snowy River is always a fun activity. Fishing isn’t our sport, but our visitors love fishing in the Snowy Mountains. Boats troll the lake for trout and fly-fishing purists fish the rivers and mountain streams.
Our favourite winter activity
Summer is all about the lake, winter is all about the snow, of course. There are endless winter activities to enjoy with nearby skiing at Thredbo or Perisher, and we try get on the hill as much as possible! Enjoy the trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing or take a backcountry tour into the wilderness. It’s not something we get to do often but our visitors love it.
Our favourite views in Jindabyne
One thing we love about Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains is the beautiful views from almost everywhere, changing with the seasons throughout the year. Sunrises over the still waters of Lake Jindabyne, lookouts with views of the peaks and even gorgeous views from the comfort of a Snow Escapes Holiday home.
Where to Stay in Lake Jindabyne
Whether you’re on a romantic escape, a holiday with the kids, or a large family reunion in Jindabyne, Alpine Country Holidays have a rental home for every occasion. In the summer months, consider a lakefront home close to the safest swimming spots on the lake or stay minutes from the Ski-Tube and close to the slopes in the winter months. Our rentals range from cheap and cheerful and dog-friendly farm stays, to luxurious holiday rental homes with panoramic views of the Snowy Mountains.
