Backcountry Touring in the Snowy Mountains
The Snowy Mountains are a great place to get away from it all. There is nothing better than to experience the Australian backcountry in both winter and the non-winter months. In winter, enjoy the solitude and the scenery of awe-inspiring granite cliffs and crags of places like The Sentinal, Schlink Pass and Watsons Crags. Glide in fresh powder beneath ‘Kosi Cornice’ or try ice-climbing at Blue Lake. All these are experiences offered by the licensed tour operators below.
In summer the Mountains beckon with glades of wildflowers and clean fresh mountain air. Your camera will get a thorough workout as you climb one of the Worlds ‘7 Peaks’ to the rooftop of Australia – Mount Kosciuszko. But there is more to the Main Range than Australias highest mountain. Take in walks to secluded glacial lakes and the solitude of sitting beside a mountain stream. Travelling with a guide will take you to these hidden gems of the High Country.
A word of warning – The backcountry is not for the novice or those striking out on their own. If you have no or little experience in steep terrain or are not prepared for the mountain weather changes you can become lost. Or worse. We recommend you travel with these highly qualified companies for your backcountry tour & trip of a lifetime!
